Impact Hammer

 
1. Overview
  Hammer is a major tool for modern structural dynamics test. Impact hammer method is used to measure structural modal shape and natural frequency. Hammer is widely used in scientific research in universities, institutions, and for the design of industrial equipments. The impact Hammer has contributed to the rapid spread of transient test.
Impact hammer is a fast, simple, and effective method to calculate structural modal parameters. It utilizes the force sensors installed in it to strike on structures being tested. With current testing techniques and Fast Fourier Transform (FFT) done on a computer, the pulse signal collected by the sensors is processed very rapidly based on pulse test principle and modal theory to calculate structural modal parameters. In the hammer method test, the input is the incentive (hammer) force signal on the structure. By measuring the response (output) acceleration signal at various points of the structure, the transfer function of the structure can be obtained and thus the vibration characteristics of modal shape and natural frequency of the structure can be calculated.
